This wire bonsai sculpture is a windswept design on a large piece of treated driftwood. It consists of over 1400 feet of aluminum wire of various gauges. Approximately 400 individual strands in a single bundle were used to create the tree and roots. Each strand was approx. 42 inches in length. The tree, foliage and roots are hand twisted from a single bundle of the 400 strands of wire. The driftwood base is specifically prepared using wire brushing, indepth cleaning and then sealed with a resin finish. This provides stabalizatiion of driftwood that is often fragile. Once the tree/roots and driftwood are created and prepared, the tree and roots are mounted on the driftwood. The tree and roots are secured using a permanent gluing techniqe. This is a maticulous and detailed process utilizing weights and clamps. To add more realism to the sculpture, smaller treated pieces of driftwood are added and secured. This particular sculpture measures approximately 13 inches tall, 29 inches wide, 7 inches deep and weights approximately 8 pounds.
